The Drilax 6 Inch Diamond Cabbing Wheel, 240 Grit is a medium-fine-grit, electroplated diamond wheel for smoothing and pre-polishing in lapidary work. Bridges rough shaping and final polish, smoothing contours and removing scratches left by coarser grits. The 6 x 1 inch wheel has nickel-bonded diamond over a solid plastic core, and the 1 inch arbor comes with 3/4, 5/8 and 1/2 inch reducer rings to fit most lapidary grinders and cabbing machines.

Benefits

240 Grit (Medium-fine): Bridges rough shaping and final polish, smoothing contours and removing scratches left by coarser grits.

Electroplated Diamond, Not Resin: Nickel-bonded diamond over a solid plastic core resists shedding and holds its cut through repeated cabbing sessions.

Fits Most Cabbing Machines: 1 inch arbor with 3/4, 5/8 and 1/2 inch reducer rings included, so you don't need to buy separate adapters.

Sharpens TIG Tungsten: Also puts a clean point on TIG welding tungsten electrodes.

Build a Wheel Set: Drilax 6 inch cabbing wheels come in 60, 80, 100 and 240 grit, each sold individually, so you can step from rough shaping to pre-polish.

Key Features

  • 240 Grit Diamond Cabbing Wheel: Medium-fine grit for smoothing and pre-polishing.
  • Electroplated Diamond: Nickel-bonded diamond over a solid plastic core, built to run true.
  • 6 x 1 Inch, 1 Inch Arbor: Ships with 3/4, 5/8 and 1/2 inch reducer rings.
  • Tungsten Sharpening: Also sharpens TIG welding tungsten electrodes.
  • Sold Individually: One 240 grit wheel. 60, 80, 100 and 240 grit are available separately.

Compatible Materials

  • Materials: Natural and engineered gemstones, glass, granite, marble, tile and tungsten.
  • Machine Compatibility: Most lapidary grinders and cabbing machines with a 1, 3/4, 5/8 or 1/2 inch shaft.

How To Use

  • Mounting: Fit the reducer ring that matches your machine's shaft (3/4, 5/8 or 1/2 inch), or use the 1 inch arbor as is, and tighten the wheel securely.
  • Use Water: Grind with water to keep heat and dust down while you shape the stone.
  • Work Through the Grits: Step from coarser to finer wheels; 240 grit is used for smoothing and pre-polishing.
  • Light Pressure: Let the diamond do the work. Heavy pressure or grinding dry wears the coating faster.

Use Cases

  • Lapidary Cabbing: Smoothing and pre-polishing of cabochons and preforms.
  • Contour Grinding: Shaping curves and edges on natural and engineered gemstones.
  • Glass and Stone: Grinding glass, granite and marble.
  • TIG Welding: Sharpening tungsten electrodes.
