The Drilax 1-3/4 Inch Masonry Diamond Hole Saw is a heavy-duty dry core bit from our Gold Series, built to cut clean, accurately sized holes in concrete, brick, block, granite, quartz and stone. Industrial-grade diamonds are sintered into the cutting teeth and laser-welded to the steel body, so they stay locked in place under load, and the 2-inch cutting depth gets through thick block and exterior walls in a single pass. No pilot bit is needed: start at an angle or use a scrap-wood template.

Benefits

Sintered Diamond Teeth: Diamonds are bonded through the cutting teeth rather than coated on the surface, so the bit keeps cutting as it wears.

2-Inch Cutting Depth: Gets through thick concrete block, brick and exterior walls in one pass.

Dry or Wet Use: Runs dry on masonry; add a little water for longer bit life and less dust.

3/8" Triangular Shank: Fits any standard corded or cordless drill with no adapter, and the flat sides stop it slipping in the chuck.

Compatible Materials

  • Materials: Concrete, brick, concrete block, cinder block, stucco, pavers, granite, quartz and natural stone.
  • Tool Compatibility: Works with standard 3/8" or 1/2" corded and cordless drills.
  • Tip: This size does not include a guide. We recommend making a template from scrap wood with a matching hole to position the hole saw.
  • Not Recommended For: Glass, mirrors, aquariums or delicate decorative tile.

How To Use

  • Drill Mounting: The 3/8 inch triangular shank fits directly into any standard corded or cordless drill. No adapter needed.
  • Starting the Cut: There is no pilot bit, so start at a 45-degree angle to notch a half-moon groove, then slowly raise the drill to 90 degrees. A scrap-wood template with a matching hole also works.
  • Operating Technique: Use a steady, moderate speed with light pressure and let the diamond teeth do the cutting. Do not use the hammer setting.
  • Heat Management: It is built for dry use, but a wet sponge or a small stream of water keeps the bit cooler and cuts dust.
  • Safety Note: If you hit rebar, stop drilling to avoid damaging the diamond teeth.

Use Cases

  • Electrical: Entry points for 1 and 1-1/4 inch conduit through brick and block.
  • Plumbing: Pass-throughs for 1 inch pipe, PEX and copper supply lines through foundation walls.
  • Anchoring: Clean holes for anchors and mounting hardware in concrete.
  • Outdoor Projects: Hose bibs, outdoor lights and utility runs through exterior brick and stucco.

F.A.Q.

Q: Can I use this bit with a regular cordless drill?
A: Yes. The 3/8 inch triangular shank fits any standard 3-jaw chuck. You do not need an SDS or rotary hammer drill.
Q: Is water cooling required?
A: No. This is a dry core bit. Using a little water extends bit life and reduces dust in very hard material.
Q: Can I use hammer mode?
A: No. Hammer mode can crack the diamond teeth. Use rotary mode only.
Q: How deep can I drill?
A: The bit cuts 2 inches deep. For thicker walls, break out the core and continue drilling.
